Frequently Asked Questions
Why can’t I get a guaranteed home birth session slot?
As a documentary filmmaker and a mom of four, I live in the same "unscripted" world you do. To keep birth photography accessible (and 50% cheaper than the industry standard), I’ve traded the traditional "on-call" month for a "call-and-see" model. It’s birth photography for realists: you call me when things start moving, and if I can be there, I’m yours. If the stars don't align, you get a full refund or a credit for a year of storytelling sessions.
What if I’m not planning a home birth?
Currently, I specialize in home birth inquiries. However, I’m a storyteller first—if your home birth plan shifts to the hospital, I’ll follow you as far as the facility allows. My goal is to document the transition, wherever it happens.
Can we have our session outdoors instead of at home?
Absolutely, though it requires a different kind of "production planning." For that cinematic look, we need to chase the "Golden Hour" (that soft light just before sunset) and keep an eye on the weather. If you have an outdoor space at home, we can often pop out if the light is right. Keep an eye on my social media for limited, season-specific outdoor mini-sessions!
Will my session involve any nudity?
Only if you want it to. I’m here to document your comfort level. In pregnancy and postpartum shoots, skin-baring shots (think underwear or crop tops) are powerful ways to record the scars, stretch marks, and strength of a changing body. I’ve spent years around bodies of all shapes and sizes in labor and beyond—my job is to make you feel as powerful as you look. You decide what stays private and what gets shared.
When is the best time to capture my pregnancy?
The "sweet spot" is usually between 28 and 36 weeks—you’ve got the bump, but you (hopefully) haven’t hit peak exhaustion yet. That said, I’ve shot sessions just days before the baby arrived. If you feel up for it, I’m ready.
When is the best time for a newborn session?
Whenever you’re ready to let me in. Some mamas want the "fresh 48" haze recorded, while others prefer to wait a few weeks until they’ve found their feet. I don't do "posing," so we don't need a sleepy baby in a basket. Whether they are two days or two months old, the story is worth telling.
What should we wear for the shoot?
- For Baby: Textures over patterns. Knitted bloomers or simple baby-grows work best. I love capturing skin and creases, so keep the house warm and the outfits minimal! No outfit changes or limit it to 1 change so we don't upset the baby’s rhythm.
- For the Family: Think "muted and cinematic." Aim for earthy, neutral tones. Avoid black, bright or white, or busy patterns/logos—they distract from the emotion in your faces.
Will you share our photos online?
Because this is a documentary project, I love showing the beauty of real life to other parents, but nothing is shared without your explicit consent. You have total control. You can opt-out entirely or "flag" specific intimate photos to keep for your eyes only.
Can we create a custom package?
Every family is a different production. If my standard packages don't quite fit your vision, let’s chat. I’m always open to tailoring a session to suit your story.
What happens if my kids are "acting up" or having a meltdown?
Good! That’s real life. As a mom of four, I’m "tantrum-proof." Some of the best documentary shots happen in the messy, loud moments. We get the glimpses of who they are in between. It's not about getting everyone's "best" face, it's about getting authentic picture of your family spending time together. If they're wild on the day, let them.
How long until I get my documentary... I mean, my photos?
I know the anticipation is real. You’ll receive a "sneak peek" within 48 hours, and your full, hand-edited cinematic gallery will be delivered via a private link within 4 weeks.
Do you offer video/film too?
While my primary focus here is still photography, my "filmmaker’s eye" informs every shot. If you're interested in a "hybrid" session with short cinematic clips, let's discuss a custom package.
You're making documentaries, can I pitch you a topic/subject?
I love a good elevator pitch! Unsurprisingly my area of interest is pregnancy, birth and motherhood and the injustice and rights abuses that happen within these realms. If you know of a great story that fits this, I'd love to hear it.
Still have a question I haven't answered?
birth and motherhood don’t always fit into a neat little box
If you’re wondering about a specific detail, a unique location, or just want to see if our "vibes" align, I’m an open book.
I’m a mom of four who makes documentaries—I’ve heard it all, seen it all, and probably lived through much of it. No question is too small or too "real" for me.

I share your shyness in front of the camera, I much prefer being behind it, but I've been forcing myself to take self-portraits on my motherhood journey. You can see glimpses of me with my kids here and throughout this website.
